The group campground accommodates up to 30 people for tent camping only. The site has picnic tables, one large campfire ring, drinking water and a vault restroom. A large barbecue is also onsite for grilling with briquettes. The parking area will accommodate eight vehicles maximum (no RVs or trailers). |

Locked Gate. Reservation-holders will access the group campground through a locked gate. Please stop at the visitor center to obtain the key before going to the campground (8 a.m. until 4p.m. or call the park at 208-527-1335 if you are running late). Water. Water may not be available during May (non-peak season). If this is important for your group, please contact the park before making your reservation to confirm whether the water is on. Water is typically on by June 1st. Tents Only. Campground is available for tent camping only. Motor Vehicles Limitations. No motor vehicles are permitted north of the group campground. Obtain a free day-use permit to explore the area north of the group campground on foot or bicycle. Food Storage. Keep a clean camp and store all food and other scented items in storage locker or vehicle. Lava Flow Campground. Craters of the Moon's other campground is available for camping on a first come-first served basis. This 42- site family campground is generally open and accessible by automobile from mid-April through November. Fires and Firewood. Wood fires are permitted in the fire ring but you must bring in your own firewood. No wood collecting is permitted. Don't Move Firewood: Help protect our forests! Prevent the spread of tree-killing pests by obtaining firewood at or near your destination and burning it on-site. Moving firewood is illegal in some states. A grove of Douglas fir trees grows on the shady north side of the volcano surrounding the group campground. |

The Visitor Center and scenic 7-mile Loop Drive are located 1.5 miles from the group campground on the south side of U.S. Highway 20/26/93. Climbing Sunset Cone is a strenuous activity but the views from the top are outstanding. Obtain an additional day-use permit for venturing north of the campground on Goodale's Cutoff. This historic trail was an alternative route used by pioneers travelling to the Oregon Territory. This dirt and gravel double-track road is a great place for riding a mountain bike.
